Debora Fino

Debora Fino

President

Debora Fino is a Full Professor at Polytechnic of Turin, Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT). Her main teaching activities concern “Plants for the chemical and food industry” and “Processes of re-use and energy enhancement”.

Currently, she is involved in several regional and European projects focused on 2G-biorefinery processes and on technologies for the mitigation of carbon dioxide emissions, which can be valorised as a raw material for the generation of other value-added products. To develop her research interests, Debora Fino combines her engineering backgrounds with her expertise in biotechnology, declined them according to the concepts of Sustainable Development and Circular Economy.

The overall scientific production of Debora Fino includes 250 papers in international journals, 6 book chapters, 2 patents, 1 phD thesis and over 350 publications of congress.

Debora Fino is involved in many governing bodies according to her expertise. She is Waste & Resource manager of Green Team of Polytechnic of Turin and from 2020, she is president of the Re Soil Foundation (founding members: Novamont, Polito, Coldiretti, Unibo) promoting the regeneration and health of soil.

Board Member

Luigi Capuzzi graduated in Chemistry at Perugia University in 1981. He worked as a researcher at the “Guido Donegani” research institute (Montedison Group) dealing with Synthesis of
Pheromones, new insecticides and development of new formulations. In 1995 he became Responsible of R&D of Sipcam-Oxon Group and Director of the “E. Gagliardini” research center.
During his experience at Oxon Group he dealt with formulation research, quality assurance, synthesis of agrochemicals and fine chemical intermediates, biochemicals (biofuels, biogas)
and management of the intellectual property of the group.

Since 2008 he is R&D Director in Novamont and in 2018 became also member of the Scientific Committee of CIRCC (Interuniversity Consortium of Chemical Reactivity and Catalysis).

In 2021 became member of ReSoil Foundation Board of Directors.

He is coauthor of more than 50 patents and patent applications and several scientific publications and communications, which complete his scientific profile.

Claudio Marzadori

Board Member

Claudio Marzadori is Full Professor of Agricultural Chemistry at the University of Bologna, Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences (DiSTAL).

After graduating in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Bologna, he obtained a PhD in “Productivity of Cultivated Plants” from the University of Udine. He spent a period as a visiting researcher at the University of Kent, UK, under the supervision of Professor Richard Burns, before becoming a researcher at the former Institute of Agricultural Chemistry of the University of Bologna, where he continued his academic career.

His scientific interests focus on aspects relating to soil fertility, soil quality assessment, soil carbon dynamics, and bio-based solutions for sustainable agroecosystems.

Throughout his professional career, he has developed expertise in the planning of multifactorial models for soil quality assessment; the agricultural reuse of biosolids of different origins as soil amendments; the assessment of soil organic carbon dynamics; and the application of biodegradable bioplastics in agriculture.

He teaches on several Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, covering subjects including agricultural biochemistry, soil chemistry, soil quality indicators, and soil-applied biotechnology.

He has held several institutional roles, including: member of the Academic Board of the PhD Programme in Agricultural, Environmental and Food Science and Technology at the University of Bologna; Degree Programme Director of “Agricultural Technologies” at the University of Bologna; Delegate for Teaching at the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences of the University of Bologna; member of the Executive Board of the Italian Society of Agricultural Chemistry; and member of the National Academy of Agriculture.

He has scientific responsibility for several national and European research projects and, at the same time, maintains strong links with companies in the agricultural sector, with which he develops commissioned research projects.

His current research interests focus on the sustainability of agricultural production, with particular attention to soil health and resilience. In the fertiliser sector, sustainability is also addressed through the recovery and reuse of biosolids of various origins as soil amendments, as a means of reducing dependence on fertilisers derived from non-renewable sources, also in light of recent and ongoing geopolitical crises.

Board Member

Dr Giulia Gregori works in Novamont as Director of Strategic Planning & Corporate Communication. Novamont is a global market leader in bioplastics and in the development of
biochemicals. Giulia Gregori entered in Novamont in September 2000, after graduating in Pure Chemistry with a specialization in Bioinorganic from the University of Milan, in collaboration with Leiden University. Within Novamont, she is responsible for Strategic R&D and Researcher Training Projects and Corporate Communication, and undertaking also external relationships with Public and Private Funding Institutions. She has been a member of several Associations and she is member of CBE JU partnership, a public-private partnership between the European Commission (EC) and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), as well as member of the Steering committee of Assobiotec (the Italian Association for the Development of Biotechnology), and member of the board of directors of Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale “Amedeo Avogadro”. She has been Secretary of the Italian Cluster SPRING (Sustainable Processes and Resources for Innovation and National Growth) which involves over 125 associated members (companies, public research entities, RTOs, associations) and 14 Italian regions, as well as supporter territories, which aims to trigger further investments and create a common platform in the field of bioeconomy at Italian level.

Dr Giulia Gregori is also member of the National Coordination Group for the Bioeconomy, that worked on the updated draft of the Strategy “Bioeconomy in Italy – BIT II” (2019) and that will contribute to ease and monitor its implementation all over the Country, as well as member of the Board of Directors of Re Soil Foundation. Promoted by University of Bologna, Coldiretti, Novamont and Turin Polytechnic, the Foundation works to enable a step change in soil health and local regeneration.
