The Soil Monitoring Law is here. Final approval at EU Parliament

After a two-year legislative process, the Soil Monitoring Law has been definitively approved by the European Parliament. Rapporteur Martin Hojsík said: “The directive is a help for farmers and foresters. It ensures healthy soil and bread on our tables.” Member states now have three years to implement the rules at the national level

Claudio Zaccone

Claudio Zaccone is Associate Professor in Soil Chemistry at the University of Verona, Italy, since October 2019. He got the degree in Environmental Science and Forestry from the University of Bari, Italy, in April 2003. In May 2007, he obtained the Ph.D. in Agricultural Chemistry. From 12/2008 to 03/2018, and from 03/2018 to 09/2019, he was Academic Researcher and Associate Professor, respectively, at the University of Foggia, Italy. He was Guest Scientist at the University of Heidelberg (Germany; 2005, 2006, 2010), the University of Alberta (Canada; 2012), the CSIC (Spain; 2016) and the Colorado State University (USA; 2017). From 06/2013 to 06/2014, he joined
the University of Alberta, Canada, as Academic Research Associate. Main research interests: i) mechanisms of soil organic matter sequestration, also in relation to climate changes, ii) peatlands as archives of environmental changes, and iii) sustainable utilization of waste biomass in agriculture. He is author of +100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and +20 book chapters. He is currently President of the Italian Society of Soil Science (SISS), member of the Editorial Board of 8 WoS-JCR journals. He is also member of the Accademia dei Georgofili and of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. He is currently Chair of Division 4 “The Role of Soils in Sustaining Society and the Environment” of the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) and member of the Board of Directors of the International Humic Substances Society (IHSS). He also served as President of the Soil System Sciences division of the European Geosciences Union (EGU).
