From school activities to European projects, Re Soil places education at the centre<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">by Matteo Cavallito<\/p>\n<p>Promoting sustainable solutions in <strong>agriculture<\/strong>, strengthening understanding of the central role of <strong>soil<\/strong> in climate mitigation, and sharing <strong>best practices<\/strong> in the field of the <strong>circular economy<\/strong> are the main goals behind the training and awareness-raising activities that have engaged Re Soil in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Stretching from the countryside of Piedmont to the plains of Veneto at the foot of the Euganean Hills, the programme saw the Foundation take part in several events, <strong>presenting its projects and activities<\/strong>. At the same time, it reached a wide audience of very young students, who were introduced in a hands-on and engaging way to the basics of responsible soil management and sustainable use of natural resources.<\/p>\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"GcTEj9aOat\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/eu-commission-agriculture-soil\/\">Soil health and living labs are the pillars of EU agriculture of the future<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"\u201cSoil health and living labs are the pillars of EU agriculture of the future\u201d \u2014 Re Soil Foundation\" src=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/eu-commission-agriculture-soil\/embed\/#?secret=W5hNhs61Mk#?secret=GcTEj9aOat\" data-secret=\"GcTEj9aOat\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h5>At Cascina Felizia, soil becomes a hands-on experience<\/h5>\n<p>One of the most significant events was the third edition of the <em>Giornata di Educazione Ambientale<\/em> (<strong>Environmental Education Day<\/strong>) hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/ambiente\/cascina-felizia-buone-pratiche-lighthouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cascina Felizia<\/a>, part of Re Soil\u2019s <strong>Lighthouse Farms<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/lighthouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">network<\/a>. Held in Cumiana, in the province of Turin, on 25 May, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DZNPo7MiBWm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">event<\/a> brought together around 450 children from several local schools, with the aim of bringing them closer to nature through practical activities and workshops. Topics included biodiversity, ecosystem protection, and the prevention of environmental degradation.<\/p>\n<p>On this occasion, Re Soil set up <strong>a dedicated stand<\/strong> focused on soil health, offering educational activities designed to illustrate the key role of soil in food production and climate regulation. The event also provided an opportunity to <strong>present two projects<\/strong> of particular relevance for the future of sustainable soil management: ECHO and PieSOIL.<\/p>\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"C39FZ1c0Gq\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/echo-challenge-soil-value\/\">The ECHO Soil Challenge aims to raise awareness about the value of soil<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"\u201cThe ECHO Soil Challenge aims to raise awareness about the value of soil\u201d \u2014 Re Soil Foundation\" src=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/echo-challenge-soil-value\/embed\/#?secret=dLRM5H66VL#?secret=C39FZ1c0Gq\" data-secret=\"C39FZ1c0Gq\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h5>ECHO and PieSOIL: research and innovation for soil health<\/h5>\n<p>Coordinated by the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and funded under the Horizon Europe programme, <strong>ECHO<\/strong> (Engaging Citizens in Soil Science: the Road to Healthier Soils) is one of Europe\u2019s leading initiatives in the field of soil health. The <a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/ambiente\/echo-salute-suolo-cittadini\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">project<\/a> seeks to raise awareness and deepen understanding among European citizens of the importance of protecting soil. The programme, supported by Re Soil through its work in communication, training, outreach and environmental education, is grounded in the principles of <strong><em>citizen science<\/em><\/strong>, directly involving citizens in data collection and soil health monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>Re Soil is also actively involved in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polito.it\/ricerca\/una-ricerca-integrata\/anagrafe-della-ricerca?progetto=449\/2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PieSOIL<\/a> project, an Operational Group for Soil Health in Piedmont. Building on the experience of several farms in the Turin metropolitan area, which face daily challenges such as loss of organic matter, <strong>soil degradation<\/strong>, climate change impacts and declining biodiversity, the initiative aims to test and promote innovative practices capable of <strong>improving soil fertility<\/strong> and enhancing the sustainability of agricultural production. The project also includes environmental and economic assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of the solutions adopted and to develop recommendations for a farming model that is more resource-efficient, resilient and circular.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/e8e7RbPZcSE?si=8EPsmfMJReHz2tXp\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h5>In Este, a dialogue between soil and the circular economy<\/h5>\n<p>At the end of May, Re Soil also took part in the <a href=\"https:\/\/sesaeste.it\/news-dettaglio\/Gli+studenti+della+Bassa+Padovana%2C+protagonisti+nella+seconda+edizione+dedicata+alla+%93risorsa+suolo%94\/125\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">final event<\/a> of the <strong>\u201cSoil\u201d project, promoted by S.E.S.A. Academy<\/strong> and hosted at the Teatro Farinelli in Este (Padua). Over the past few months, the initiative has engaged hundreds of high school students from the area in an educational programme dedicated to understanding and protecting soil through workshops, hands-on activities and creative projects. In both cases, young people were placed at the centre\u2014not as passive observers, but as active participants.<\/p>\n<p>Initiatives of this kind turn complex topics into concrete, accessible experiences that <strong>engage students<\/strong>, helping them move from passive spectators to active participants in their own learning journey.
