In this context, the <strong>circular bioeconomy<\/strong> plays a key role in improving the health and functionality of the soil thanks to its low-environmental-impact bioproducts, but also through the enhancement of organic matter and the closure of the carbon cycle. These are the key themes of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecomondo.com\/en\/event-detail\/States%20General%20of%20the%20Green%20Economy%20for%20soil%20health%20-%204th%20edition%20-%20Circular%20bioeconomy%20and%20opportunities%20for%20soil%20regeneration?eventId=3055856\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fourth edition<\/a> of the <strong>States General of the Green Economy for soil health<\/strong>, scheduled for <strong>November 6<\/strong> in Rimini during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecomondo.com\/it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ecomondo<\/a> exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>The event, organized by the Ecomondo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecomondo.com\/en\/events\/conferences\/scientific-committee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scientifical Technical Committee<\/a>, the Re Soil Foundation, and the National Bioeconomy Coordination Board (NBCB), will provide updates on current policy initiatives and projects with a look at the <strong>EU Soil Mission<\/strong> and its positive impacts in Italy and Europe.<\/p>\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"yzln76uCc1\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/de-sealing-free-soil-best-practice\/\">Freeing up soil is possible. Experts share regeneration experiences trough de-sealing&#8221; &#8212; Re Soil Foundation\" src=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/de-sealing-free-soil-best-practice\/embed\/#?secret=Go27NFDWZm#?secret=yzln76uCc1\" data-secret=\"yzln76uCc1\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h5>Experts discuss bioeconomy and soil regeneration<\/h5>\n<p>\u201cSignificantly named Circular Bioeconomy and Opportunities for Soil Regeneration, this year&#8217;s event aims to highlight the crucial link between<strong> land restoration actions, climate change mitigation<\/strong>, and the development of a sustainable agriculture that is also capable of ensuring global food security,\u201d explains <strong>Margherita Caggiano<\/strong>, general director of Re Soil Foundation, who will chair the session together with <strong>Luca Montanarella<\/strong>, president of the International Network of Soil Information Institutions (INSII) and member of the Foundation&#8217;s Technical and Scientific Committee.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe hope,\u201d she adds, \u201cis to repeat <a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/ecomondo-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last year\u2019s success<\/a> by creating, once again, a valuable <strong>forum for discussion between experts<\/strong> from different backgrounds to address the most important issues on the agenda from different perspectives.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These issues remain crucial given the challeging scenario that Europe is still facing. According to the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.jrc.ec.europa.eu\/repository\/handle\/JRC137600\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cState of Soils in Europe\u201d<\/a> report published by the <strong>JRC<\/strong>, degradation affects about <strong>two-thirds of European land<\/strong>, while erosion removes <strong>1 billion tons<\/strong> of soil from the continent every year. Furthermore, nutritional imbalances are on the rise (and are currently found in <a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/ambiente\/stato-suoli-ue-degrado-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">three-quarters of cultivated land<\/a>), while organic carbon in agricultural fields is declining (down 70 million tons in the EU and the UK between 2009 and 2018).<\/p>\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"TSxIAmY4EV\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/fao-global-soil-biodiversity\/\">FAO Launches the Global Soil Biodiversity Observatory<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;FAO Launches the Global Soil Biodiversity Observatory&#8221; &#8212; Re Soil Foundation\" src=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/fao-global-soil-biodiversity\/embed\/#?secret=NPkPO9T6G1#?secret=TSxIAmY4EV\" data-secret=\"TSxIAmY4EV\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h5>European policies<\/h5>\n<p>The program for the event, extensive as usual, will be opened by <strong>Fabio Fava<\/strong>, coordinator of the National Coordination Group for the Bioeconomy (GCNB) and <strong>Stefano Masini<\/strong>, head of the Environment and Territory Area at Coldiretti. The discussion will address bioeconomy, with an update on the work of UN Food and Agriculture Organization presented by <strong>Marta Gomez San Juan<\/strong>, FAO&#8217;s agricultural and biosystems engineer, and a focus on its recent results such as the mapping of bioeconomy-related indicators, including biodiversity, climate, and environmental goals, and the role of global partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the agenda the European policy, starting with the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/data.consilium.europa.eu\/doc\/document\/ST-9474-2025-REV-1-ADD-1\/it\/pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Soil Monitoring Law<\/a><\/em>, which is getting closer to final approval, with a keynote speech by <strong>Annalisa Corrado<\/strong>, MEP and shadow rapporteur for the Directive. Speakers will include <strong>Angelo Riccaboni<\/strong>, Full Professor of Business Economics at the University of Siena, <strong>Mario Gualdi<\/strong>, President of Isinnova, and <strong>Susy Longoni<\/strong>, Head of the APRE Lombardia Help Desk &#8211; Innovation and Projects Unit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovhub-ssi.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Innovhub SSI<\/a> Experimental Stations for Industry, of the Milan Monza Brianza Lodi Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, an in-depth look at soil regeneration projects including <a href=\"https:\/\/soul.crea.gov.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SOUL<\/a>, which is dedicated to bio-applications in the soil with optimal biodegradation at the end of their life cycle, <a href=\"https:\/\/cordis.europa.eu\/project\/id\/101218840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AUSO<\/a>, for the establishment of the <strong>African Union Soil Observatory<\/strong>,and the soil health initiatives carried out under the <a href=\"https:\/\/research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu\/funding\/funding-opportunities\/funding-programmes-and-open-calls\/horizon-europe_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Horizon Europe<\/a> program.
