Topics on the agenda include innovation, indicators and key tools such as remote sensing and digital mapping<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">by Matteo Cavallito<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Promoting knowledge exchange for land health ahead of the emerging <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/qanda_23_3637\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European soil monitoring law<\/a>. This is the goal of the workshop \u201c<strong>Supporting Capacity Building in Soil Monitoring in Europe<\/strong>\u201d, the latest initiative of the <a href=\"https:\/\/prepsoil.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prepsoil<\/a> project: on the agenda are four online sessions divided into two modules scheduled on <strong>June 13 and June 20<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The meetings, organizers <a href=\"https:\/\/prepsoil.eu\/events\/supporting-capacity-building-soil-monitoring-europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explain<\/a>, are intended \u201cto help refine priority content and approaches relevant to training needs in soil monitoring.\u201d Each session, moreover, \u201cwill include a brief interactive final section to gather feedback from participants.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"UhfAquRzNo\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/prepsoil-project-final-event\/\">Brussels to host Prepsoil project final event<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;Brussels to host Prepsoil project final event&#8221; &#8212; Re Soil Foundation\" src=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/prepsoil-project-final-event\/embed\/#?secret=3j8fbdU4Cb#?secret=UhfAquRzNo\" data-secret=\"UhfAquRzNo\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h5>Soil monitoring is the focus of the initiative<\/h5>\n<p>The sessions (click <a href=\"https:\/\/prepsoil.eu\/node\/61635\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> <strong>to register<\/strong>) are aimed at individuals involved in soil monitoring and governance with a focus on policy makers, technicians, researchers and practitioners, institutions and civil society as well as stakeholder networks. Discussion topics include the <strong>EU Soil Strategy 2030<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/api\/files\/document\/print\/en\/qanda_23_3637\/QANDA_23_3637_EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Soil Monitoring Law<\/a> and its implications (including the launch of national monitoring systems), and more.<\/p>\n<p>There are four stated goals of the initiative:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gain access to validated <strong>methodologies and indicator systems<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Understand the <strong>legal and technical implications<\/strong> of the new EU directive<\/li>\n<li>Learn how to <strong>design monitoring frameworks<\/strong> and interpret soil data<\/li>\n<li>Engage in shaping future European <strong>capacity-building<\/strong> strategies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"5MJ0jR4BfY\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/citizen-science-soil-monitoring\/\">Citizen science provides valuable help to soil monitoring<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;Citizen science provides valuable help to soil monitoring&#8221; &#8212; Re Soil Foundation\" src=\"https:\/\/resoilfoundation.org\/en\/articles\/citizen-science-soil-monitoring\/embed\/#?secret=8hJWZMI9GY#?secret=5MJ0jR4BfY\" data-secret=\"5MJ0jR4BfY\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h5>The program<\/h5>\n<p>June 13 meetings focus on <strong>innovation in monitoring activities<\/strong> by addressing key issues such as the characteristics and complexity of key indicators as well as different approaches to soil survey activities and a specific case study: assessing the impact of CAP measures on soil organic carbon in Spain. The initiative has involved several partners including<strong> Re Soil Foundation<\/strong> reaching a wide audience including universities, citizens, students, teachers and civil society as well as, of course, soil monitoring agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Through this <strong>workshop<\/strong>, in particular, <strong>Prepsoil<\/strong> is contributing to the mapping of training needs of the public and professionals, content development on soil indicators, monitoring protocols and <strong>digital technologies<\/strong>.
