U.S. animal feed producers spread 235 million pounds<\/strong> (106,600 tons) of pesticides on their fields annually, threatening thousands of endangered species, says<\/a> the British newspaper The Independent<\/em><\/strong> quoting estimates shared exclusively by the organizations World Animal Protection US<\/strong> (WAP) and Center for Biological Diversity (CBD)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The survey is a genuine accusation against the industry. “Meat and dairy production are driving the use of these pesticides,” the newspaper writes. “One-third of agricultural lands in the US are dedicated to corn and soy, primarily to provide calorie-dense diets for fattening up farmed animals. Corn and soybean production globally accounts for about half of all sales of pesticides<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n
